I’ve read a lot of creepy thrillers and horror novels that have had me on edge, but it’s rare that a book actually scares me. Here are eight books that had me reading through my fingers.
Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra
Late one night, a woman is tucking her son back into bed when she hears footsteps coming up the stairs. Someone is in the house.
This one had me so scared I had to stop reading it one night, because I was afraid to go to the bathroom alone. 😅
The Island by Adrian McKinty
A family is on vacation on a remote island. An accident turns it into a nightmare, and they have to run for their lives.
This one had me holding my breath.
Her Last Breath by Taylor Adams
Tess finally agrees to go caving with her friend Allie. A man is there, starts harassing them, and soon they’re trapped with him in a crawl space. Hundreds of feet underground.
This one is super claustrophobic.
We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer
A young couple move into a new fixer upper. One day, a man and his family knock on the door saying they used to live there, and can they see it? Then they go inside.
No Exit by Taylor Adams
A woman pulls off the road into a rest stop during a bad storm. Then she sees a little girl locked in a car, and the driver is someone inside with her.
Run on Red by Noelle W. Ihli
Two girls are driving down a rural country road on their way to a party, when a truck starts following really closely. By the time they notice, it’s too late.
I could not breathe properly while reading this one. 😰
Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
A husband and wife seem like the perfect couple. But why does Grace never leave the house? And why are there high-security metal shutters on the windows?
The Wrong House by Zia Rayyan
A couple lose out on their dream home. They break in during one night of revenge, but realize they’re not alone.
I hope these scare you just as much as they scared me!
